Hand Block Printing

Facilities

8 tables, each 6 meters long with a total capacity to print between 100 to 200 meters of fabric a day depending upon the complexity and number of colours used.

We have a collection of over a thousand wooden blocks in a variety of designs both traditional and contemporary. New designs are created either for our own collection or for a specific client and blocks are carved specially for them.

There is no limit to the number of colors that can be printed though ideally, for efficient production, we recommend a limit of 6 colors per design.

Fabrics

We can print on all natural fibers like cotton, silk, linen, jute etc.

Dyes used

  • Pigments ( water based)
  • Reactives
  • Rapid Fast and Indigo Solubles
  • Napthols and Bases
  • Acids

We do not use natural dyes because the water available at our studio workshop is too hard and is not suitable for the use of natural dyes. However at Bodhi we also believe that moderation is the key to sustainability and excess use of natural dyes could cause as much damage to the environment as chemical dyes.

All the water used for processing of printed textiles is treated, cleaned and filtered for recycling within our workshop. The system is so elegant and simple that it has to be seen to be believed.
